1. Diaphysis-

The diaphysis is the shaft or the body of the long bone. Its the main portion of the bone.

2. Epiphysis-

The distal and proximal ends of the bone, there are two of these portions per long bone.

3. Metaphysis-

The region in a mature bone where the epiphysis meets the shaft. There are two parts in this region.

3a. Epiphyseal line-

Line of cartilage that replaces the growth plate when it stops growing.

3b. Epiphyseal plate-

Also known as the growth plate. Layer of hyaline cartilage located in the metaphysis of growing bones.

4. Articular Cartilage-

A layer of hyaline cartilage that covers the epiphysis where the bone articulates with another bone. It servers to reduce friction and absorb shock and movable joints

5. Periosteum-

A tough sheet of dense irregular connective tissue surrounding the bone surface except where there is articular cartilage. Allows the bone to get thicker but not longer. Nourishes the bone. Serves as attachment for ligaments and tendons.

6. Medullary Cavity-

A space within the diaphysis. Contains yellow bone marrow in adults and red bone marrow in children.

7.Endosteum-

Single layer of bone forming cells that lines the medullary cavity
